Sometimes accidents happen. For example, sports can be rough on your teeth. In such cases, your teeth can sustain damage. In order to save a tooth or prevent future complications, it’s best to see an emergency dentist immediately if you’re experiencing tooth pain/aches, if you’ve chipped or lost a tooth or if you’re experiencing swelling or bleeding. At Emergency Dentist Milwaukie-Clackamas, Sunrise Dental, we’ll quickly address any dental emergencies your or your family experience.

Some Common Dental Emergencies

Tooth and Mouth Trauma

If your tooth becomes chipped or broken, come see us immediately. Repairing a chipped or broken tooth can be a time-sensitive matter.

Rinse your mouth with warm salt water. This will help sanitize your mouth and provide some pain relief. Apply a cold compress to outside area of your face that covers where the broken tooth is. This will help keep down any swelling.

For chipped teeth, follow the same instructions. Chipped teeth aren’t always as serious as broken teeth. It may be that the dentist can file the tooth to get rid of any sharp edges. They can also apply a material that will fix the shape of the tooth and smooth out any sharp edges.

Lost Tooth
If your tooth gets knocked out, quickly rinse (do not scrub, because you don’t want to damage any roots or necessary parts of the tooth) the tooth in water or milk. Hold it by the upper part. Don’t touch the root area. Place the tooth under your tongue or between the cheek and gum. This will keep the tooth safely moist. Then get to the dentist as quickly as possible.

Swelling and Tooth Aches
Swelling, pain, and toothaches can indicate fractures or other possibly major problems. Come to our office as quickly as possible so we can determine the cause and fix it.
